Air Katira | Street Food

 BY: Delaila Ansori

Every time the month of Ramadan arrives, katira water is a water that is always popular in the Ramadan bazaar. It is also called as grape gum/gond katira/gum tragacanth. These are substances contained in katira water. This drink comes from the middle east (not sure which country) and is brought to Malaya by traders. Johor naturalized this drink into a local drink. The people of Johor made little changes in terms of the material. Middle eastern people use rose water to get a fresh aroma, but in Johor it is replaced with pandan.
